Well, at long last, PDXClassicHomes.com is ready for launch.  While the site is definitely still a work in progress, it’s a labor of love.  I’ve been lucky enough to build a relatively successful real estate career and equally lucky to have found a niche that I’m passionate about.  Portland has an amazing array of classic properties, ranging from the beloved Craftsman to the quirky Queen Anne.  They’re all unique and most have features surprisingly well suited to Portland and Portland’s eclectic neighborhoods.   It’s interesting how houses tend to mirror a city’s style and sensibilities.  Local architects and builders built the homes, often using exclusively local materials.  Features such as steeply-pitched roofs and wrap-around porches are well-suited to Portland’s unique climate, with rain one minute and sunny skies the next.  It’s also interesting how different styles speak to different clients.  It’s a study in psychology, honestly.  In the end, I feel very lucky to have found a niche that just feels right…and one that has emerged completely organically.  I never planned on specializing in classic homes.  The specialty grew naturally from my clientelle, largely first time buyers looking to live close-in.  Without fail each client expressed their desire for a house “with soul, charm and character.”  It didn’t take long to realize that what they usually meant was that they wanted one of these incredible classic properties.  Thus a business was born.
