Belmont District
Ah, the Belmont District, without doubt one of my favorite parts of Portland. Take the Hawthorne, subtract the four-lane double-yellowed boulevard, keep the funky, keep the soul, add some mom and pops, subtract the traffic, add the charm, divide by bohemian cool and you have Belmont. By the way, that equation looks something like B = H-(blvd)+(f+s+mp-t)+c/Bc…or maybe it doesn’t.
The Belmont District runs along SE Belmont between SE 30th and SE 60th, give or take. It’s not as large or crowded as Hawthorne, but offers much the same charm and much the same feeling. Coffee shops, music stores, restaurants, boutiques and the like abound. If you need a great cup o’ joe served up with some killer food on Dave’s Killer Bread and a side of hand selected music, look no further than Sound Grounds. If you need to satisfy that sweet tooth with a trendy flair, you’ll need to hit up Saint Cupcake. If the sugar rush and caffeine high give you a jolt of energy, there are worse ways to pass the day than romping along Colonel Summers Park and Community Gardens. Basically, if you want it, you can likely find it in Belmont.
If vintage houses are your thing, like they are mine, Belmont has you covered. Belmont has an tremendous selection of Queen Anne houses, particularly in the Queen Anne Stick style, Foursquare, Bungalow and Craftsman.
The Belmont District truly has something for everyone, so I highly that it’s high time for some urban exploration!
