Classic Home Improvement #2

The work continues as we rebuild a fallen retaining wall. Retaining walls can be extraordinarily important. In this case, the main focus was to secure the land that the hot tub sits on (hot tubs are heavy!), but the job’s actually much more important than just that. The huge second level deck that sits off the main floor is supported by posts that are partially secured by the same retaining wall. If the land near the hot tub slid it’s very possible that the entire deck would also come down. At very least the structural integrity would be seriously compromised. We chose to go with a standard pressure treated cedar wall for many reasons, including cost, durability and appearance. The posts will also, if all goes well, serve as perfect place to tie in an eventual deck.
