The Story

Portlanders have always had a love affair with architecture.  From Pioneer Courthouse to Pittock Mansion, Portland’s soul has always been found in its buildings and houses.  Portland’s classic homes do more, though, than simply paint a scenic backdrop for the city’s life.  They also tell the story of Portland’s rise from frontier town to one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the West coast.  They offer a glimpse into the city’s attitudes and philosophies.  They are a link to its rich history and a visual reminder of what makes Portland such a uniquely wonderful place to live.

Portland’s classic homes reflect their owners’ ideals and personalities.  From a Craftsman’s use of local, sustainable materials and the cleverly placed built-ins that maximize space and efficiency to the whimsical decorations and asymmetry of a grand Queen Anne, local architecture mirrors local ideals and attitudes.  Large wrap-around porches hint at Portland’s love of outdoors, while broad eaves and overhangs protect the owners from the finicky weather.

As a Realtor, I have ample opportunity to tour classic homes.  From Bungalows to Four-Squares, Tudors to Victorians, there is never a shortage of strikingly beautiful homes for sale.  As my career progressed, I developed a deep love for these soulful homes, filled with style and substance.  I’ve been lucky enough to find a way to merge my love for Portland’s classic houses with my goal of delivering the best real estate experience possible.

PDXClassicHomes.com is a way to share that passion with a larger audience.  The Classic Styles pages briefly describe and summarize each unique architectural style while also giving a glimpse into that style’s history.  Check out the Classic Neighborhood pages for active listings in a given part of town or to simply learn more about interesting neighborhoods.  I’ve even included a glossary (which is very much a work in progress), with pictures whenever possible, to explain some of the more technical terms.  Jesse’s Blog is my day-to-day blog where you’ll find anything from interesting notes on Gothic houses to the Top Ten Reasons Home Depot May Be Evil.  While I will undoubtedly write about the market and important current events affecting my clients, there will also be plenty of posts on a wide range of topics.  Not everything has to be real estate related, right?  Hopefully, by reading my posts, you will get a feel for who I am…as a person and a Realtor.  The Search Now features gives you instance access to active listings.  Feel free to play around with the Search Now feature if you’re ready to get started or if you just have a burning desire to know what $350,000 will get you in Hawthorne, for example.  Be sure to check out the Classic Neighborhood pages if there’s a specific part of town you’re interested in.
