Victorian Era
Technically speaking the term Victorian really refers to an era more than an actual style of architecture. The Victorian period ran roughly from 1840 to 1900, give or take, during a time when industrialization was quickly advancing the types of styles, techniques and materials available to architects and builders. The resulting Victorian styles became distinctive in their own design, yet generally share an overall Victorian feel. Of course, as with most architectural trends, most Victorian sub-styles share common features and characteristics.
Victorian homes tend to have that gingerbread house feel and are filled with fancy and whimsy. I often describe Victorian styles as being like fairy tale houses. If you imagine what Cinderella or Snow White might have designed, you’d most likely picture something reminiscent of the Victorian movement.
